Returning to Google

I’ve returned to Google as an Global Product Manager, and I want to share why — because the answer isn’t just professional, it’s personal.

It has everything to do with where the world is heading.

Over the past year, we’ve witnessed a noticeable shift in the public tone around artificial intelligence. Industry giants like Amazon and Microsoft have begun stating — even celebrating — the idea that AI will replace millions of white-collar jobs. It's a mission that seems increasingly comfortable with optimizing governance for efficiency, even if that means destabilization in the short term, and the sidelining of human agency, creativity, or purpose. In this not so subtle transition — from possibility to inevitability — I heard something dangerous: the formation of a new doctrine. A doctrine built on the fear of losing. One that treats labor disruption as destiny, and elevates efficiency as the highest good.

That was the moment urgency hit me. Not just to reenter the tech conversation, but to rejoin it from a place where the “why” still matters.

Simon Sinek once said:

“People don’t buy what you do; they buy why you do it.”

And increasingly, the “why” behind many tech companies seems to be drifting toward geopolitical positioning and competitive pressure, rather than long-term flourishing and revelation. I understand the urgency behind these decisions — the race for AI dominance is real — but in the age of AGI, leadership cannot be reduced to managing tradeoffs between human strengths and machine output.

These tools are not just faster or cheaper. They are exponential multipliers. Dream bigger — yes — but think deeper. AI has the potential to cure cancer, solve Long Covid, and make classic war tactics obsolete. But it also has the power to widen inequality, entrench systemic imbalances, create unimaginable cybersecurity risks, and destabilize democratic systems, if, left unchecked.

At Google, we still talk about the user first. We still say: “Respect the User. Respect the Opportunity.” That isn’t a tagline — it’s a worldview. One rooted in the belief that technology should amplify human potential, not marginalize it. That scale should serve people, not erase their quality of life. That true innovation leads to abundance, not engineered and artificial scarcity.

I don’t think it’s naïve to pursue ideal outcomes. I think it’s the only responsible path forward.

In this role, I’ll be working across teams to shape product strategy — not just within Google, but out in the world, with partners, customers, and analysts. I’ll be helping to translate complex market signals into responsible, future-focused solutions. But more than anything, I’ll be working to ensure the voice of the user — the teacher, the patient, the builder, the dreamer — isn’t drowned out in the noise of scale and speed. AI is moving fast. Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is no longer science fiction — it’s a real, approaching milestone. And as we edge closer, our responsibility isn’t to “go faster.” It’s to go wisely.

The decision room is no longer just technological. It is architectural. Moral. Global.

This is where Sinek’s view of leadership becomes essential:

“Leadership is not about being in charge. It’s about taking care of those in your charge.”

And we have to be honest — has the tech industry truly done that?

In the AI era, leadership is no longer about managing systems. It’s about stewarding outcomes. It means ensuring the benefits of scale don’t just compound upward — they radiate outward. It means designing with the understanding that we are not just optimizing lives — we’re shaping what a meaningful life will even look like in the years to come. Foresight doesn’t mean slowing down innovation. It means refining it. Directing it. Guarding it.

It means resisting false incentives and short-term wins that erode long-term trust. It means building for what can’t be measured — like cultural continuity, psychological safety, spiritual dignity, and equal access to opportunity, regardless of geography, health, age, identity, or belief. We must reject the notion that complexity is a bug to be eliminated. Complexity is where people live. It's where love lives. It's where meaning lives.

So, in short, I came back to Google because I believe it’s still a place where the long game matters.
